The Trailer Leaf Slipper Spring, part number SP-040275, is not galvanized or coated it is a solid steel leaf spring. The leaf springs are shipped with a light coat of paint for rust protection but are not rust proof. Coating or treating the springs would not work because of the flexing and rubbing the springs are subject to under the trailer. They do not have leaf springs that are specifically designed for boat trailers that are used in salt water. Since the leaf springs will flex there is no kind of plating or coating that will stay attached to the spring. Also, the process that is used to plate or coat a part can use high temperatures that could cause premature failure of the spring.

I spoke with Malone and the Malone MegaSport Kayak Trailer part # MPG535 is USA made and assembled save for the leaf springs and wheels/tires. I don't think there are many leaf spring manufactures in the USA and I know there are only a few trailer tire manufactures. I went out into out warehouse to see if these were made in China, and I found the letters MCK stamped on the spring and that means it was made in China.

Unless your axles were custom made/modified, the 3" diameter will denote an axle in the capacity range of 5,200 pounds (like the Dexter # 6340624) up to 7,000 pounds (like the Dexter # 8327834). If there was a previous owner of your trailer, they may have upped them to a heavier capacity, but even some manufacturers will equip trailers with heavier duty parts than needed. All of our axles will come with spring seats already welded in place. We do not have the ability to weld any spring seats here at our shipping facility. I spoke with my contact at Rackem about the information you requested for the Double Barrel Trailer Tailgate Assist, # RA-27C. The chain that attaches to the tailgate bracket is chrome plated steel. The internal chain and spring are not plated because they are stored in the tailgate assist housing and will not be exposed to the elements very much and the main housing is painted steel, not baked enamel.

Typically, when the outside edges of a tire are showing wear its because the tires are under-inflated. The solution is to inflate the tires to the maximum pressure listed on the sidewall.
Now if the outside of tires have what looks like gouges are taken out of the rubber most likely it is broken suspension components or its a bent axle or spindle.
Unlike passenger vehicle tires, you always want to have trailer tires inflated to the maximum tire pressure for the best performance and wear.
